{"id":1292,"date":"2019-08-04T13:58:39","date_gmt":"2019-08-04T13:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/?p=1292"},"modified":"2019-08-04T13:58:39","modified_gmt":"2019-08-04T13:58:39","slug":"beta-testing-ancestry-coms-new-hint-features","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/?p=1292","title":{"rendered":"Beta Testing Ancestry.com&#8217;s New Hint Features"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Notice the new Hints feature on Ancestry?&nbsp;&nbsp;It appears at the top of the Hints page in the middle below the ribbon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-WHbFBCr5g0s\/XTdTTnUneII\/AAAAAAAAYCQ\/lILY2CRHU_0FOJTaWt9N0vSPQHavIZz5QCLcBGAs\/s1600\/a.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-WHbFBCr5g0s\/XTdTTnUneII\/AAAAAAAAYCQ\/lILY2CRHU_0FOJTaWt9N0vSPQHavIZz5QCLcBGAs\/s640\/a.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To become a part of the Beta test group, simply toggle the button \u201cBETA OFF\u201d to the right to become \u201cBETA ON.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you aren\u2019t into Beta testing, here\u2019s what changes you would see \u2013 after the two pictures of Joseph Reid, notice there is a \u201cQuick Compare\u201d toggle on the right side of the screen.&nbsp;&nbsp;I have the feature disabled below so all you see in the last column for the Texas, Death Certificates, 1903-1982 is Different and New:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-Rwv4ijp2O64\/XTdTdLQEFSI\/AAAAAAAAYCU\/k-iqqs2SfwEDRUQY92gCDC1eaiRCzZWTACLcBGAs\/s1600\/b.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-Rwv4ijp2O64\/XTdTdLQEFSI\/AAAAAAAAYCU\/k-iqqs2SfwEDRUQY92gCDC1eaiRCzZWTACLcBGAs\/s640\/b.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>What was different and new?&nbsp; Joseph was misspelled on the Texas Death Certificate as Joshph which is why it is noted as different from what I have in my tree, Joseph.&nbsp; I did not have Joseph\u2019s spouse and children so that information would be \u201cNew\u201d to me.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Other options are Same (for the named individual) and Match (for a spouse or child).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you toggle from right to left the Quick Compare button, you see the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-NkeLAK2j3ZI\/XTdTqBOfo2I\/AAAAAAAAYCc\/XxY6-9KBVwY13fGFMPwU5q9j-FN9101EQCLcBGAs\/s1600\/c.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-NkeLAK2j3ZI\/XTdTqBOfo2I\/AAAAAAAAYCc\/XxY6-9KBVwY13fGFMPwU5q9j-FN9101EQCLcBGAs\/s640\/c.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So now I see what exactly is the difference from my tree and the record (which was what I figured \u2013 Joseph was spelled differently, duh!).&nbsp; It also provides the birth date and place I had in my tree.&nbsp; I had Ohio but the death record stated Pennsylvania, USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compare is a nice feature as you can see the differences between the new record and what\u2019s already saved in your tree without having to leave the Hints page.&nbsp;&nbsp;I don\u2019t use Hints often, though, so it\u2019s not likely I\u2019ll be toggling for Quick Compares frequently.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is how I use Hints &#8211; If I have Hints on, I always click Ignore.&nbsp;&nbsp;I do this because the Hint never goes away, it simply disables the waving leaf.&nbsp;&nbsp;If I ever want to see the Hint I ignored, all I need to do is go to the Hints section of an individual as seen below (Click on Hints, it&#8217;s in the same line with LifeStory):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-r-fnP1SabfY\/XTdT1Dj03II\/AAAAAAAAYCk\/eS5IUokQNmg8uVjCQD_7R2RZ-U5oQksowCLcBGAs\/s1600\/d.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-r-fnP1SabfY\/XTdT1Dj03II\/AAAAAAAAYCk\/eS5IUokQNmg8uVjCQD_7R2RZ-U5oQksowCLcBGAs\/s640\/d.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Clicking on Ignored will allow me to look at those Ignored Hints again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are looking at Hints for everyone in your tree (by clicking the leaf on the upper right hand corner and selecting your tree) in the Beta option, when you click Ignore you get the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-3Abtvt0FKRA\/XTdUGMx8plI\/AAAAAAAAYCw\/mQi6U6jCWssniv9QMvl84ybOjfgagLRcgCLcBGAs\/s1600\/e.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-3Abtvt0FKRA\/XTdUGMx8plI\/AAAAAAAAYCw\/mQi6U6jCWssniv9QMvl84ybOjfgagLRcgCLcBGAs\/s640\/e.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I would click \u201cI already have this information.\u201d as I don\u2019t need the same picture saved twice.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019d like to offer your input in making Ancestry.com\u2019s Hints better, give the Beta test a try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next week, I\u2019m going to blog about why I have Joseph Reid, the father-in-law of my husband\u2019s 5<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;cousin twice removed.&nbsp;&nbsp;Stay tuned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Notice the new Hints feature on Ancestry?&nbsp;&nbsp;It appears at the top of the Hints page in the middle below the ribbon: To become a part of the Beta test group, simply toggle the button \u201cBETA OFF\u201d to the right to become \u201cBETA ON.\u201d If you aren\u2019t into Beta testing, here\u2019s what changes you would see &hellip;
