{"id":1385,"date":"2020-03-18T15:39:58","date_gmt":"2020-03-18T15:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/?p=1385"},"modified":"2020-03-18T15:39:58","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T15:39:58","slug":"colorizing-old-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/?p=1385","title":{"rendered":"Colorizing Old Photos"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>You may have tried the new MyHeritage tool that allows you to upload a black and white photo that will be transformed into color.&nbsp; I spoke with a colleague at a genealogy conference last month who gushed about the magic of the results.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I finally got around to trying it and decided the true test would be with one of the photos in my collection that were of a known relative so I could compare results with memory.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I selected a photo of my great grandmother, Anna Grdenic Kos[s]:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-uw8Ng7TX9fQ\/XmP6BVSGBjI\/AAAAAAAAYt8\/7imX-r8XXpwb5Rnr3FlAwrYAswYt1q9FQCLcBGAsYHQ\/s1600\/Anna%2BGrdenic%2BKoss.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-uw8Ng7TX9fQ\/XmP6BVSGBjI\/AAAAAAAAYt8\/7imX-r8XXpwb5Rnr3FlAwrYAswYt1q9FQCLcBGAsYHQ\/s320\/Anna%2BGrdenic%2BKoss.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I recall this photo was taken Christmas 1961 or 1962.&nbsp; I remember the dress and that my grandmother, Mary Violet Kos Koss, purchased the corsage and it was worn to the church service.&nbsp; I even recall where they attended, St. Joseph&#8217;s Croatian [Roman] Catholic Church in Glen Park, Gary, Lake, Indiana.&nbsp; I didn&#8217;t go with them because the mass was in Croatian; instead, my mother and I walked a block to attend services at St. Mark&#8217;s [Roman] Catholic Church.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s what the colorization looks like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-cGvfqdjJy4M\/XmP6_cv2rUI\/AAAAAAAAYuE\/2WUx0lXQzwUxamdvtssj71cy1WoUeMqmgCLcBGAsYHQ\/s1600\/Anna.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-cGvfqdjJy4M\/XmP6_cv2rUI\/AAAAAAAAYuE\/2WUx0lXQzwUxamdvtssj71cy1WoUeMqmgCLcBGAsYHQ\/s320\/Anna.JPG\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This was not my great grandmother&#8217;s skin tone in winter; she was quiet pale.
