{"id":1790,"date":"2021-09-22T20:35:26","date_gmt":"2021-09-22T20:35:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/?p=1790"},"modified":"2021-09-22T20:35:26","modified_gmt":"2021-09-22T20:35:26","slug":"analyzing-data-clues-to-solve-mysteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/?p=1790","title":{"rendered":"Analyzing Data Clues to Solve Mysteries"},"content":{"rendered":"Remember the old board game, Clue?\u00a0 Maybe you saw the movies or read\nthe books about the game instead.\u00a0 That&#8217;s the kind of week I had but it\nwas in real life.\n\n<!-- \/wp:post-content --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nI juggle two careers; one in education and one in genealogy.\u00a0 I love\nthem both!\u00a0 I&#8217;m not loving what is happening in either right now.\u00a0 I\nmiss my students.\u00a0 I miss traveling to archives.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nSince I highly value both humans and the bread crumb records they leave\nbehind, I follow safety guidelines.\u00a0 I realize not everyone believes that\nthe virus is real or it will have dire consequences for them if they are\ninfected.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t agree with those that refuse to wear a mask or social\ndistance or go out when they aren&#8217;t feeling well but I respect their difference\nin opinion &#8211; just stay away from me and my family!\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nThat being said, my hubby and I have requested that we continue working from\nhome via an eLearning platform this upcoming school year and were granted that privilege.\u00a0 Should have been simple but unfortunately, it wasn&#8217;t.\nOne of us was told DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES COME ON CAMPUS and the other was told YOU WILL BE WORKING FROM A SAFE LOCATION ON CAMPUS.\u00a0 We work for the same school district and have the same job title and work with the same grade level of students.\u00a0 We both were determined to have the same level of risk which is why we were granted the eLearning permission. Both of us were highly successful using the online platform since March. We are both former National Board Certified Teachers and deemed accomplished by our district. No one can explain why we have different instructions as to how to execute our roles.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nSince no one can provide us a valid reason, we have both decided to Zoom\ninto meetings when we&#8217;re notified they are occurring.\u00a0 I cannot tell you\nhow thankful we are that we have made the decision we did.\u00a0 On Wednesday\nmorning a Zoom meeting was held in a classroom with 12 on site attendees and 3 off site. The sign in sheet and pen were passed around onsite for attendance\nand one took off his mask briefly to address the group but was told to put it\nback on and complied.\u00a0 The next day, the administration was notified that\none of the onsite attendees was diagnosed with covid.\u00a0 Due to Hippa, the\nname of the individual cannot be disclosed.\u00a0 Hence, the game of real life\nClue begins. It is a no brainer to figure out who has it as everyone knows who\nwas in attendance and who did not show up for work the next day.\u00a0 So much\nfor Hippa confidentiality.\u00a0 If only finding records of our ancestors or\ndetermining relationships for them could be so simple!\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nLast Saturday afternoon I was notified that I won a free Clooz software\npacket.\u00a0 I had been entered into a drawing from visiting the NGS online\nExhibit Hall last month.\u00a0 Since the May NGS Conference had to be\ncancelled, the event was moved to online with breakout sessions available for\nviewing (after purchase) on July 1st.\u00a0 Also available was a link to\ncorporate sponsors who would have been available face to face if the conference\nhad been held.\u00a0 Some of the sponsors offer product discounts or give aways\nfor visiting their &#8220;booth.&#8221;\u00a0 That was how I came to be the lucky\nwinner of\u00a0 Clooz 3.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nIf you aren&#8217;t familiar with Clooz, it is a program to document data with\nfeatures that help in analyzing the inputted information to determine identity\nand relationship.\u00a0 The program will export to your family tree and offers\nmore than 200 report formats to help with analysis.\u00a0 I thought this was\njust what I need to help sort out my Duer family that reuses names (John,\nThomas, Daniel) several times in each generation.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve also long sought\none document that would conclusively show that my Thomas is the son of\nJohn.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\nNotified by email, I downloaded the software and on Sunday, watched several\nof the 12 introductory videos at the site.\u00a0 The presenter has a\npersonable, calming voice and demonstrates where to click and how to enter\ndata.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nI have a lot of records on my Thomas and John Duer so I&#8217;m not yet done\nentering the information into Clooz to begin using the reports. I spent Sunday\nadding People, Sources and Census info.\u00a0 I still have more to go but\nsomehow, I did something wrong and cannot find the saved file.\u00a0 I am clueless\n(pun intended!) where I saved it!\u00a0 So, I plan on spending time today\ndetermining where all my data went from last weekend and moving forward with the program.\u00a0 Hopefully, Cluz will give me some clues where it&#8217;s hiding.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember the old board game, Clue?\u00a0 Maybe you saw the movies or read the books about the game instead.\u00a0 That&#8217;s the kind of week I had but it was in real life.
