Only the older birth <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ancestry.com\/search\/collections\/60280\/\">records up to 1933 <\/a>remained:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"846\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-1.png 846w, https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-1-300x248.png 300w, https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-1-768x635.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Alarmed, I drove to one of my local libraries in DeKalb County, Indiana to check if this was just a glitch with the home edition. It wasn\u2019t.<br><strong>No access. Nowhere.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then I did what any professional genealogist would do: I asked colleagues around the country \u2014 and around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In Michigan? Full access.<br>In Wisconsin? Full access.<\/strong>                                                                                                                    <strong>In Texas? Full access.<br>In California? Full access.<br>Even in Germany? Full access.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone <em>except Indiana<\/em> still had the record set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indiana Hoosiers \u2014 the very people whose ancestors\u2019 records these are \u2014 are now blocked.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s the kicker:<br><strong>Indiana\u2019s new 99-year birth record restriction law doesn&#8217;t even take effect until July 1st.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is absolutely no lawful reason for Ancestry to have prematurely restricted Hoosiers from their own historical records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why did Ancestry jump the gun? Who knows. But it stinks to high heaven.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it gets worse. FamilySearch, too, has removed the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/en\/search\/catalog\/1674814\">Indiana, Births and Christenings, 1773\u20131933<\/a><\/em> database from its Indiana Wiki pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week? I now maintain a separate digital file of all Indiana birth records I\u2019ve located, independent of any online platform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DON\u2019T TRUST THAT THEY&#8217;LL BE THERE TOMORROW.<\/strong><br>I&#8217;ve gone through my family tree twice to make sure I\u2019ve captured every birth certificate between July 1926 and 1944. NOTE: Some were indexed wrong so play around and others were never included, my father-in-law, for example.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SPEAK OUT.<\/strong><br>Let Ancestry and FamilySearch know that Indiana genealogists will not quietly stand by while access is stripped away without warning or legal justification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The clock is ticking, and history is being erased in front of our eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t think this affects you because you have no Indiana family? Think about this adaption of Martin Niemoller&#8217;s poem with assistance from ChatGPT:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First they sealed the adoption records.<br>Then they erased the mental health histories.<br>Then they locked away the birth, marriage, and death records.<br>Each time, we said, &#8220;It\u2019s just one set.&#8221;<br>Now the archives stand empty,<br>And we have no memory left to defend.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will remain vigilant and continue to speak out to preserve all of our history.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I warned you.
