Are they threatening to shut down your email? One way to lessen the storage is to remove your photos from Google Photos. You can do this in batches which makes the task quicker. Here\u2019s a quick how to. The photos below were taken on Sunday, August 7, 2016. I want to save all of them so I click the checkbox next to the date. There you can rename \u2013 I add the date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"95\" height=\"74\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-13.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3582\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I create a folder by year (Right click your mouse, click \u201cNew\u201d \u201cFolder\u201d and name the folder by year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When done with saving the photos for that year, I drop the folder into Dropbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have a lot of pics, you can easily extract them at one time. Simply click the \u201cExtract All\u201d icon:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"632\" height=\"406\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-14.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-14.png 632w, https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-14-300x193.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure you have created a folder to place them in or they will be all over your desktop!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"636\" height=\"474\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-15.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3584\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-15.png 636w, https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-15-300x224.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Just select the folder from Browse and click \u201cExtract.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Next you\u2019ll want to delete the Google Photos you\u2019ve saved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Simply click the dates again and the checkmarks will return.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the 3 dots and select delete.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The deleted photos will remain for 60 days in Google Photos Trash; if you need to clear up space immediately, on the side bar, under Collections, scroll down (it\u2019s hidden) to Trash:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"212\" height=\"377\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-16.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3585\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-16.png 212w, https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-16-169x300.png 169w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 85vw, 212px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>4. Clicking on Trash will bring up all the photos you deleted. To lessen your storage numbers, click empty trash and they will all permanently disappear \u2013 make sure you are ready to get rid of them as you will not be able to retrieve them after emptying trash.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"248\" height=\"126\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogyatheart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-17.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3586\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll be honest, my storage numbers did not significantly drop after deleting large amounts of photos but they have stopped harassing me to buy more space! I also have a lot of emails saved which I plan to move out of Gmail.
